Being at the peak of rainy season and the El Niño, there was an extraordinary amount of water almost everywhere. Even in the desert people were talking about the first rains in decades. So after a hot dry week in the desert, where should we go? The rain forest obviously.
We headed east from Arica to San Pedro de Atacama, over the Paso de Jama (it's all paved!) and rolled into Salta and its famous municipal campground with the world's largest pool. This time the crossing from the Chilean coast to Salta took two days; last time a week. Experience counts. From Salta it was a short hop east into the rain forests of the Yungas jungle.

We made it back to the campground just in time for the all night disco next door to get started. Curt was more preoccupied with this than I was, for I was for the first time looking pretty gnarly compared to my overlanding campground mates.
