From Coyhaique, the Carretera Austral northwards is paved for a small stretch, and then it is back to the rough gravel that I love. It twists and turns around glacier lakes and fjords; glaciers hanging overhead, and rain forest below. Volcanoes tower overhead covered with snow. As the road gets closer to Puerto Mont, the volcanoes lose their snow hats. The mighty Osorno stands towering over the Lakes District laughing at its destructive power that it put on display 2 years ago. The slaves wanted to go to the top of Osorno, but it was a good idea they took the gondola and not me. Zebras do not have good relations with volcanoes.
